I seem to go a little “nuts” every holiday. I suffer from a severe case of obsessive craft behavior. Holidays can become a real danger to me because I can’t wait to try out new things. I craft and decorate each room in the house.
And each year all the decorations are different! (come on now,if I saved them all—well,that would be INSANE!) So I start each one about 6-7 weeks (or sometimes even months) before the date and begin crafting.
This year was no exception. I started making crocheted pine cones to dangle from my living room curtains, which led to making fall foliage swags for them, which led to intertwining them with Halloween garland, which led to… well, I’m going to share with you how to make the pine cones.(by the way, they make great ornaments at Christmas and I’ve used them to decorate holiday gift baskets as well)
Pine cones in crochet
You’ll need:
yarn of your choice,any color you desire and any ply—remember the larger the ply the larger the pine cone
Size H crochet hook or any other size you choose
Ch 1 5, leaving a long yarn tail at the start.
*Dc in 3rd ch from hook, ch 3, sl st in first chain to make a picot. Repeat 3 more times in the same stitch
Repeat in each of the remaining chains of the original chain.
In the last ch finish off after the last dc. Leave a long yarn tail.
Tie the two tails together to form a hanger.
Well, there you have it. It’s a very easy pattern and extremely versatile. I used it for all sorts of projects. You can enhance gift boxes, baskets or bags.
Add them to wreaths and dangle them from garland or doorways or curtains or anything. They make great ornaments on your Christmas tree, too. I’ve made different colored ones—variegated yarn, bulky yarn, 4-ply worsted. Gold crochet thread makes tiny, elegant ones!

What types of maks should I wear to prevent the Swine Flu?
I am a student and my school isn’t closed, yet, and I cant afford to miss any of my classes. I was searching online for available sanitary masks and I came across two different types of masks; Cone masks and ear loop style masks. I have no clue which one is a better choice to get for preventing the Swine Flu.
Use an N95 mask-but at this point it is not necessary.
Just wash you hands before eating or touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Avoid people who are coughing.
If you find out that their are cases in your area, start to avoid crowds
Why would my dog start biting her hair out? ?
I just recently had my 3 year old maltese shaven down- not to the point where you just see skin, but where it’s a nice short hair cut like a chihuahua. The second day, after having her groomed this way, she sarted biting the hair off her tail. It is all bloody and she won’t stop. I treated her tail with oxygen peroxide and neosporin, but she’s still going at it. Now she’s starting on her hind legs. Could this be a psychological reaction to getting shaved? We’ve had her sport this style in the past and she hasn’t behaved this way. She doesn’t have any fleas or ticks, and I don’t see any problems with her skin. Her appetite is suppressed and her energy level is low. I’m on my now to buy her one of those cone collars to keep her from biting herself anymore. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
It could be a number of things. It could be a parasite she picked up fromt he groomer, she could be having a reaction to something, and she could have the mange. You say it’s not fleas, so let’s rule that out for now. The best bet is to get the cone as you’ve said you’re going to do, and use the neosporin, but get her into a vet asap and get some antibiotics.
