Aromatherapy – How Essential Oils Can Help You
Aromatherapy has its foundations in an ancient holistic healing practice of the mind body and spirit. The key therapeutic benefits of essential oils are as an anti-bacterial, antispasmodic, decongestant, astringent, anti-inflammatory, stimulant, sedative, diuretic, analgesic, deodorant, anti-viral, immunostimulant and aphrodisiac. This range of applications in addition to the aromatherapy scent is what makes essential oils so well-liked.
Where is aromatherapy used?
Essential oils are easily absorbed through the skin based on their molecular structure therefore an aromatherapy blend mixed with a carrier oil such as grapeseed oil or almond oil for massage is the premium choice of application. Diffusing or burning essential oils?
Hi guys,
I bought a lamp oil diffuser, it heats the essential oil by using the heat of the bulbs and one time I read this about heating up or burning the essential oils in which it causes some lung problems because it produces some harmful material s like carcinogens and other pollutant. I’m just wondering if this is true or how will you avoid this harmful causing materials? Thank you.

What you describe is a duft-lamp.
Essential oils should not be burned. Their chemistry can be delicate, heat can ruin some therapeutic benefits. The exception being some resins that are too viscous for use with a diffusor. Additionally, heated essential oils can make a real mess that you may never be able to remove from the ceramic/glass. Some diffusors that use the heat of a lamp have a reservoir large enough to accommodate the addition of water. This can keep the temperature down and prevent the overheating of the essential oils. But again…the mess. A true diffusor uses air to put the eo’s into the air, they are safe and are easily cleaned with alcohol. Not soap and water, you will never get it rinsed completely.
Regarding your question about safe and natural. There are pure eo’s that are not safe. Be aware of the indications and contraindications of each essential oil that you are using. Each bottle of essential oils should have a botanical name as well as the common name. There are different varieties of Lavender, for example, with very different chemical signatures that can not be used interchangably. You should be able to have all you questions answered at your place of purchase. You should be able to believe and confirm that your essential oils are uncut and unadulterated. If you are concerned about quality, you should be able to confirm country of origin and country of distillation as well as the conditions under which the essential oils have been kept. Glass/metal/plastic containers? Temperature?
What’s a basic recipe for blending essential oil?
I’m planning on making my own home fragrance oil to put on a diffuser but II don’t know what essential oil to buy. Can you give me a basic recipe blend? I’m thinking about starting with Lavender.
It depends what you want it for, Lavender is good for sleep . Anything citrus will make you more up beat. Lemon grass with anything woody smelling ie cedar wood is relaxing but not tiring . Clary sage good for lowering stress and addictions. Roman Chamomile mixed with lavender is very good for sleep. Don’t forget just a tiny amount is needed in a carrier oil (Any vegetable oil ie jojoba oil almond oil even olive oil at a pinch) 5 to 10 drops per quarter cup. should be good.
