Here is a list of different essential oils that are used in bath and body recipes.
Choose an essential oil that suits your skin requirements you can always substitute essential oil ingredients for ones that are more suitable, more affordable or simply to one that you may already have.
Essential Oils
Lavender Essential Oil – Headache stress, insomnia, minor burns, skin rashes, lowers blood pressure. Calmative. Basil Essential Oil- Anti bacterial, headaches, mental alertness, fatigue, stress.
Lemon Essential Oil- Cellulite, oily skin, anti bacterial, asthma and other respiratory complaints.
Patchouli Essential Oil – Tightens pores, combats wrinkles, Mobilizes cellulite, stress reliever, insomnia, relaxant, acne, eczema, psoriasis, sores and minor burns.
Sandalwood Essential Oil- Calms the mind and spirit, oily skin, soothes irritated skin, and is an aphrodisiac for men.
Spearmint Essential Oil- Soothes the skin, calmative, and settles upset tummies.
Lemon Grass Essential Oil- Skin toner, oily skin, fatigue, muscle aches and gastric infections.
Tea Tree Essential Oil- Anti- fungal, acne, skin toner.
Juniper Berry Essential Oil – Cellulite, Spiritual Uplifting
Fennel Essential Oil – Diuretic, circulation. Cleansing oil, indigestion and gas.
Cypress Essential Oil- Diuretic, varicose veins, circulation, coughs and colds.
It is always wise to consult a qualified aroma therapist before using essential oils. Pure essential oils are concentrated, it is not necessary to use large amounts of oil.
Always dilute the oils to 5% or less with a carrier oil before applying to the skin.
Keep the oils away from children and from eyes and mouth.
Do not use the oils if pregnant, epileptic or suffering from high blood pressure.
The following is a basic guide.
Massage: Dilute 5 or 6 drops of essential oil to 100 ml of carrier oil.
Inhalation: Place one drop of oil on a tissue.
Bath: Add 6 drops of essential oil to a warm bath.
Vaporizer: Fill vaporizer cup to three quarters full with water and add 4 drops of oil.
Footbaths: Add 6 drops of oil to a bowl of warm water.
Steam Inhalation: Add 8 drops of oil to a bowl of hot water and inhale steam.
Always take note of the CAUTION given with the oil’s description and properties.
Do not leave the cap off the bottle. Store essential oils in a cool dark place.

Does lavender essential oil help in easing migraine pain?
I know that lavender eo is good for promoting relaxation as well as Ylang Ylang. I have both of these oils and use them in a light bulb fragrance diffuser in the bedroom to help ease stress from the day. Is lavender good for treating migraine pain? What other oils are there to help do this?
Also, can I use lavender oil alone or does it need a carrier oil.
actually ylang ylang (and other strong floral essential oils) will probably make a headache and/or migraine worse.
but lavender is very beneficial. its not just the scent that promotes relaxation but the chemicals that make it up are natural pain relievers along with several other things (skin care, acne, burns, rashes, soothes muscle aches and pains, helps digestion etc..) you can apply lavender oil, straight from the bottle to your skin (temples, back of neck) and it will be more beneficial
frankincense might also help (but do not apply to the skin, only use in the diffuser) and most citrus oils work well too, (lime, lemon, neroli, tangerine, grapefruit….but only use in the diffuser)

Try a health food store — look in the yellow pages. Aura Cacia is a good brand that makes a few basic blends (plus all the singles) and is sold in most natural product stores. Look in the bath and beauty department of Whole Foods Market or Wild Oats.
You can buy lavender oil and mix it in an unscented lotion or oil. Lavender blends well w/ rosemary, lemon or mint. Rose oil is almost always already diluted because it is extraordinarily expensive. Rosemary is pungent — sort of like pine oil — and is more medicinal than the other 2; blends well w/lemon or lavender.
Edit: Bath & Body Works sells mostly (if not all) synthetic blends. And the website referred to is http://www.massagewarehouse.com/index.asp, not wearhouse.
