How To Treat Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are swollen and inflamed veins which are found around the rectum or in the anal canal. Hemorrhoids can be internal and external. When the veins are swollen inside the anus, they are internal hemorrhoids. When the veins are swollen under the skin surrounding the anus or towards the opening of the anus, they are external hemorrhoids. It may be painful but it normally not serious. One can experience both conditions at the same time. Pregnancy, anal intercourse, severe cases of diarrhea or constipation, and aging are some of the factors responsible for hemorrhoids. The treatments and symptoms for hemorrhoids differ for each person depending on the type – internal or external.

A few simple ways on how to treat hemorrhoids are:

• Avoid harmful foods and beverages: Alcohol, red pepper, both regular and decaffeinated coffee, nuts, and mustard are harmful and therefore, should be avoided.
• Salt intake should be controlled: The intake of salt should be controlled because too much of it retains fluids present in the circulator system, causing bulging of the veins in the anal canal.
• More of fluids and fiber: When suffering from Hemorrhoids, one must eat food containing lots of fiber and drink lots of fluids, especially water.
• Warm water sitz baths: If the hemorrhoids are painful, then relaxing in sitz baths with warm water for a stipulated period of time is advisable.
• Usage of ice packs: Using or applying ice packs and cold compress a few times a day helps to reduce discomfort and swelling.
• Use of petroleum jelly or Zinc Oxide Paste: Use of a talc powder, a mild cream, petroleum jelly or Zinc Oxide Paste reduces itching and eases defecation.
• Cleanliness: The anal region should be regularly cleaned with wet paper or pre-moistened wipes for better healing.
•  Loose clothing: Wear loose and comfortable clothing. Cotton underwear is advisable.

Other ways of how to treat hemorrhoids include:

Using Psyllium Seeds – Psyllium seeds have high fiber content and helps to soften the stool which makes it easier to pass. Psyllium seeds prevent hemorrhoids and reduce the pain of bowel movement. Psyllium seeds are common in herbal medicine or nutrition stores and should be included in the diet of the person suffering from hemorrhoids.

Using vasoconstrictors – Vasoconstrictors can be used to reduce the swelling and pain of the hemorrhoids. The most common vasoconstrictors or used to reduce pain are Rectacaine and Preparation H

Use of local anesthetics – Creams such as Americaine, Lanacane, and Medicone are usually prescribed by doctors to reduce pain.

Does my son have worms?

Last night my 3 year old woke up in pain holding his bottom. He said it was very sore, and when I had a look, it was a little bit red around the anus area, but could not see anything obvious. This has happened about 3 months ago, same symptoms. I put lanacane (to prevent itching) around it last time as he was in so much pain, and it eased after a while. I put lanacane on again last night, but after reading the box today, it says ‘Do not use on children under 12 years of age’ Why is this? I don’t think he is constipated as he goes to the toilet regularly. What is also strange is that about 6 months ago my 8 year old was complaining of exactly the same symptoms, and he was screaming that his bum itched so much. Was just wondering if this may be worms? My partner went to the chemist after I thought it was worms and bought some Ovex Suspension. This states to treat all 4 of the family and 1 x 5ml spoon will kill threadworms, but not even sure if this is what he has…….

if he has threadworms, his bottom will be really itchy mainly at night when the females come out to lay the eggs. his bottom maybe sore because he has been scratching in his sleep. make sure he washes his hands really well before breakfast otherwise he will swallow more eggs and the cycle just goes on!
if you check when he has been to the toilet, you maybe able to see small worms, that are about 2-3 cm long and look like pieces of thin cotton wriggling about in it.
in the meantime, yes you would need to treat the whole family as you can catch them off towels etc and if you only treat one, then you will never get rid of them. But from what you said it does sound like he has them im afraid.
