Hence, if you have any plans of putting up a small business perfumery or at least try one for yourself, you should learn the necessary supplies needed in making perfume from home.
Here’s the list:
1. Your choice of formulation or perfume recipe
Perfumes differ according to their formulation or recipes. Hence, in order to come up with a good perfume, it is best that you choose a good recipe or formulation.
In doing so, you must consider the kind of perfume you want to achieve, then, check out the descriptions entailed in a particular recipe. Try to evaluate if that formulation will create your desired fragrance.
2. Fragrance or essential oils
This is one of the major ingredients in making perfumes. The quality of the finished product is dependent on the quality of fragrance oils used in the formulation.
Fragrance or essential oils establish the perfume’s inherent attributes like mood, quality, and character. Hence, it is important that you get the best type of fragrance oil that you can get. Just keep in mind that essential oils are more expensive than fragrance oils.
Also, try to learn and understand the health risks or strength of essential or fragrance oils. Some formulas may bring about health problems when not used in the right manner.
3. Alcohol
Perfumes are not made with fragrance or essentials oils alone. Perfumes also use alcohol as the primary solvent.
4. Materials for measurements, handling, mixing, and storing perfumes
Since you will be making a homemade perfume, it is imperative that you choose the right materials that will be used in measuring, handling, mixing, and storing perfumes.
In measuring, the ordinary kitchen utensils or those that are used for measuring volumes of water or other food items are not suitable for measuring fragrance oils, alcohol, or other solutions required in the process.
Although you can use them as alternatives, it is best to opt for the right kinds of measuring devices because perfume making entails exact amount of oils and solvents. If in case you have used the wrong measuring device, your homemade perfume might be a disaster.
In mixing and storing perfumes, it is best to use glass materials so that you can see what is inside the container. However, some formulations may need dark colored bottles for storage. Hence, it is best to understand the exact requirements of a particular formulation.
In handling formulas, such as transferring them into the storage bottle or in other container, it is best to use a funnel with a narrow and long neck.
5. Fixatives
These are used and combined with the other ingredients to lower the “evaporation rate” of fragrance or essential oils. That is why perfumes that lose its fragrance fast means that it has little amount of fixative.
These are the primary supplies in making perfume from home. You can readily buy them in retail at the nearest retail shop in your area. Hence, if you want to start making your own fragrances, try to get these supplies in making perfume from home and build your scent personally.
