Sunburn is a burn in the skin due to lack of proper protection prior to sunbathing or routine exposure to the direct heat of the sun. It becomes red, swollen, and blistering may also occur as an inflammatory reaction after excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation.
Even within 30 minutes of exposure to UV rays, injury to the skin may already start. So, first thing to do is to shield yourself immediately away from the direct exposure to the sun. Take a cool bath and not an ice cold one. Do not rub the skin to dry yourself up, instead, pat it dry with a soft towel. Drink plenty of water to replace the fluids lost in your body.
For better hydration of your skin, you can apply Aloe Vera or any moisturizing lotion frequently. Do not use toothpaste, petroleum jelly or butter on your sunburn because it would delay the healing process. Avoid touching the blisters to prevent the site from getting infected. If accidentally they burst, you may consult it with your doctor so you will be given antibiotic ointment to apply over it.
If worst cases of sunburn occur, seek immediately for physicians help or call 911. Complications might worsen if action will be delayed. Fever sometimes occurs and the body becomes very much dehydrated. The person needs immediate replenishment of fluids in that case. Some would experience headache, extreme pain, severe blistering, and even fainting. These complications usually depend on the percentage of skin affected by sunburn.
To prevent sunburn, the best thing to do is to avoid the sun. But since it is not easy to do that because of our activities and we need to go out, we can use protective measures. We can use sunscreen or sun block for protection and wear wide-brimmed hats or clothing that cover up most of our skin. Increase of fluid intake also is recommended so your body would be well-hydrated.
There are also individuals who purposefully expose themselves directly to the sun to get tanned. Excessive exposure should be avoided and you have to make sure to apply sunscreen protection every now and then even after the exposure to keep your body well-protected.

Well this morning i was cutting my nose hair with a electric nose hair trimmer (gross i know) and i accidentally cut the inside of my nose. So i went to target to look for some infection protection cream and one of the lady’s there said to use this ointment called “Polysporin”. It says “#1 dermatologist recommended for infection protection” So i bought it. But when i got home i realized it said “For external use only”. The lady said just to get a q tip and wipe the inside of my nose but now I’m not sure because it says that. I mean i don’t wanna inhale this stuff if its not good for me. Should i still use it even though it says external use only?
Yes, it’s fine. “External use only” is a fancy phrase for “Don’t eat me!”
