Second, get over the stereotype that only women with a certain body type should be daring in their selection of lingerie. Finally, what is the desired effect that you want to achieve? Is it stylish and comfortable or wickedly sexy?
Listed are the most popular and most widely available panty styles. These styles come in bold colors and sensual fabrics and can be easily matched with anything from a bra to a corset.
Boy Shorts: A full-coverage panty style with a low-riding waistline and leg openings that rest just above the thigh. They are relatively new to the lingerie scene but are becoming increasingly popular among women of all ages. They are named for their similarity in looks to men’s knit boxer shorts, which themselves are a variation on traditional boxer shorts. They offer full or near full coverage in the rear, depending on what style you choose, and they’re considered extremely comfortable.
Hipsters: These panties offer the same low-riding waistline as the boy short. However, this panty style is a shorter version that cuts off well above the thigh. While hipsters are generally considered a full-coverage style, some may be cut a bit higher in the rear than classic boy shorts or briefs. They are the ideal style for anyone wearing low-slung pants or short skirts.
Tanga style panties: The Brazilian cousin of the boy short. The Tanga is very similar in style to the boy short but is cut higher in the back of the leg giving it a much more cheeky look. Tanga panties are usually made of lace or sheer fabric. If you are looking for something even sexier try a mini tanga. The mini tanga is basically a cross between a standard tanga style panty and the thong.
Bikini style panties: A classic and flattering style for women of all shapes and sizes. Bikinis give full or nearly full coverage in the back with leg openings that are cut above the thigh. Most bikinis sit about three inches below the waistline, although with the popularity of low-rise pants, some are now cut even lower. The sides can be anything from a string to a thicker side panel.
Thongs: The skimpiest of the panty styles but are surprisingly comfortable. Thong style panties are characterized by a thin strip of material along the center of the garment’s rear designed to sit between the wearer’s buttocks connecting the front to the waistband in the back. Thongs come in a variety of styles depending on the thickness, material, or type of this rear portion of fabric:
G-strings feature little more than a triangle of fabric in front and a thin “string” of fabric around the hips and down the back. The unique V-string panty are similar to G-strings but feature a rear string that separates into a “V” of two strings at the rear waistband.
T-backs offer more coverage than G-strings, and the side straps stretch straight across the top of the buttocks. From the back, the straps resemble the letter T.
Rios are similar to T-backs, except the side straps rise above the hips.
