If you want to know how to keep skin healthy and smooth, there are certain skincare products you need to look for. You’ll need to always be sure to use a gentle cleanser, as opposed to one that’s harsh. But no matter how gentle your cleanser, you will always need a good moisturizer. Dermatologists have noted that people spend lots of money on a variety of different skincare products, but fail to recognize the importance of a basic moisturizer. Moisturizers are fairly affordable. If you wanted, you could even use something as simple as olive oil.
The problem with most moisturizers is that they contain petrolatum or mineral oil. Those are petroleum derivatives. We are exposed to too many petroleum-derived chemicals, anyway. We certainly don’t want them in our skincare products. Besides the possible health risks associated with exposure to petro-chemicals (a subject too long to cover in this article), petrolatum and mineral oil are not similar to the skin’s own oils. Because they are so different, they are not absorbed into the skin’s layers. As a result, they cause a greasy feeling and clog the pores, leading to pimples and other blemishes. The regular use of a plant-based moisturizer is how to keep skin healthy and smooth. Some of the best ingredients are Shea butter, grape seed oil and avocado. Manufacturers have the ability to combine those natural ingredients to create a lightweight non-greasy emollient.
Shea butter contains a variety of different nutrients. It is a nut butter, originally developed in Africa where the Shea tree grows. Some people don’t like the smell of Shea butter, but the natural scent is practically unnoticeable. If the cream has a heavy scent, the manufacturer added fragrance ingredients. Avoiding fragrance ingredients is an important part of how to keep skin healthy and smooth. Fragrance ingredients are mostly petrochemicals, too. The exact composition is never revealed on the label. It is supposed to be a “trade secret”.
Overall, fragrance ingredients are the most common cause of allergic and adverse reactions, although artificial preservatives may be tied for that distinction. Parabens, urea, petroleum-based alcohol, mercury and other artificial preservatives are found in practically all skincare products. The manufacturers say that artificial preservatives are necessary in order to prolong the shelf-life of a product. There is a naturally occurring alternative that is non-allergenic. It is commonly recommended as how to keep skin healthy and smooth. It’s called natural vitamin E. You will see vitamin E or alpha-tocopherol listed on the label of many skincare products. But, most manufacturers use the artificial form of vitamin E, another petrochemical.
Natural vitamin E is an effective preservative. It has antioxidant activity to help protect your skin’s cells from free radical damage. Research suggests that it may help prevent age spots and it is known to have anti-aging activity. All of the natural plant oils mentioned above contain vitamin E. There’s more you could learn about how to keep skin healthy and smooth. But avoiding the petrochemicals is a good first step.

Skin Non Greasy Questions
Can anyone recommend a good non-greasy everyday suntan lotion that’s not oily or pore clogging?
I’m hoping to find something with an SPF of 30 or higher for everyday use. Face and body. Most things I have tried are still greasy or oily or they leave a white residue. I’d like to find something that goes on smoothly and soaks in like a regular body lotion does. I hate that most of them stain my clothes or leave a greasy feeling or residue behind! And most of them have a wierd odor! I am very fair skinned and break out easily. I have tried some of the Neutrogena and Aveeno products…..and still get all the problems I mentioned above!Maybe someone out there has something different to suggest? Thanks!

i am extremely pale and have very sensitive skin also and the only thing i’ve found that works for me is banana boat’s suntanicals sunscreen lotion. it comes in spf 30 and 45. it’s not at all greasy and it works great. i can apply my makeup over it easily without getting that oily look. and unlike every other sunscreen i’ve tried, it doesn’t make me break out. it’s really more like a lotion than a sunscreen–it absorbs right into the skin. it actually has worked better than any lotion i’ve tried–it’s made my skin really soft. also it doesn’t even smell like sunscreen really which i love about it. i have to wear sunscreen every day, even in the winter, and i love this stuff. it’s not at all expensive and one tube lasts me about 4-5 months. they don’t sell it in the winter though, so if you have to wear it in the winter like i do, i would suggest buying an extra tube at the end of the summer to get you through the winter.

ASTRINGENT MIXTURE = Half apple cider vinegar and half cool water. You can also freeze this solution into ice cubes and use it as a cooling facial treatment on a hot summer day.
OVERNIGHT PASTE = Honey, wheat flour, and vinegar, use it to lightly cover a new outbreak of
pimples overnight, rinse off in the morning. This should accelerate the healing process.
ACNE TREATMENT = Use a clean travel size bottle to mix 1 part vinegar and 10 parts water. Clean your face as usual in the morning, then carry this bottle and a few cotton balls with you so you can dab acne spots several times during the day. This solution shouldn’t dry out your skin, and the vinegar will help return your skin to a natural pH balance. This treatment may also help prevent future acne outbreaks. Discontinue use if irritation worsens.
