coconut oil lotion question?
i’d like to make a coconut oil lotion that will stay liquid. i use straight coconut oil on my pregnant belly and as a perineal massage. it works great but my house is quite chilly and i find that i’m too lazy to apply it as often as i should simply because the coconut oil stays solid all the time. is there a very basic mixture i could make that would keep it liquid, and still be safe to use both on skin and perineal area? all the recipes i find involve melting beeswax and at least 2 oils plus water etc.. i was hoping there is something more simple i could do – and prefer not to use heat on olive oil since it makes it go rancid faster.
Unfortunately, the only way to keep Coconut Oil as a liquid is to keep it above 76 degrees F… the melting temp is between 72 and 76, unfortunately. You could heat up the bottle in some water on the stove or run it under hot water for a few seconds before applying it to get it more liquidy, but if your house is normally chilly, it’s not going to stay in a liquid form in temperatures like that.
