I know you probably have used home remedies for chigger bites at one time or another. The use of this kind of remedy is very popular but not all of them are effective and safe. We are here to find out what remedies are safe to use and how effective they are.
Going out in the woods during dry and warm seasons can make you more susceptible to chigger bites. The bites are usually situated around the waistband or the ankles. They leave reddish and itchy marks on your skin.
Chiggers are parasitic creatures. It attaches itself to mammals so that it can get its protein fix for it to survive and grow.
Contrary to popular belief, these creatures do not actually burrow under our skin. They do not have the body parts to be able to penetrate deeply into our dermis. And unlike other parasitic creatures, it is not our blood that they are after.
These parasites “drink” the fluids that are present in the cells of our skin. During this process, they leave a fluid that irritates our epidermis causing itchiness and redness.
If you want to avoid these creatures, do not go near damp places with fertile land good for vegetation. They are also drawn to moist areas in our body concealed by skin tight clothing like underwear, tight jeans or socks. This is why when you do go outdoors, wearing loose clothing can make you less susceptible to the attacks of these parasitic creatures.
The bites are generally not serious but in some cases, there are certain types of this creature that carries a disease known in Asia as scrub typhus, so avoiding this is important.
Many have tried using home remedies for chigger bites. People seem to think it is okay to put nail polish on the affected area because it can reduce itchiness. Nail Polish actually contains chemicals that will more likely irritate your skin further.
If the itchiness disturbs you, try these safe and effective home remedies for chigger bites instead:
1. As soon as you go home from the woods, immediately take a bath. After that, apply a paste made out of baking soda and water. Apply this to the area affected.
2. Crush aspirin and mix it with a bit of water. Apply this on the affected area.
3. The juice of an herbal remedy called Aloe Vera can also help. Just rub the affected area with this. It can get rid of the itchiness and the redness.
4. Mix vinegar with water. Apply this on the itchy part. It may sting a little if you have already scratched it but it works in relieving the itchiness.
5. You can also try applying peppermint to soothe the affected area and to prevent scratching.

Minor Dog Bite Treatment?
What’s the fastest and safest way to treat a minor dog bite on your stomach? I tried Neosporin and it still stings. It was my dog, so I know that all of his shots are updated, so I’m not worried about disease, just scarring and infection.
“Minor” dog bite wounds can be deeper than they seem. If you are unsure of the depth or the wound just doesn’t seem to be getting better see your doctor. You might need antibiotics or a more involved wound “wash out.”
To try to avoid this, you can clean the wound with alcohol or betadine in the shower. Or if you have access to a swimming pool with chlorinated water, go for a swim. Chlorine does a great job of killing bacteria.
Neosporin and other antibiotic ointments don’t penetrate deeply enough to be of much help in puncture injuries.
