My son has had eczema since he was born, but never really had terrible break outs, or ones that couldn’
t be cleared up. About six months months ago he started breaking out in patches all over his legs and feet, and they will NOT clear up. At times he will scratch so much that they will bleed, and I’m concerned about secondary infections. We have tried everything under the sun that has been recommended or found online, etc. Oatmeal baths, cortizone, aveeno,eucerin, natural lotions and soaps, no soap at all, cold water baths, no bath at all, benadryl, prescription strength cortizone, EVERYTHING. Nothing has helped clear up the breakouts all over his legs and feet. HELP!

So i have had eczema for years. i have allergies (to many things as of now im aware of 13) and recently it has been very hot. Therefore im not quite sure what caused the flare up. I went out and bought cortisone ( the maximum strength moisturizing one) and it burned and made the itch more intense for about 10-15 minutes ( similar feeling to allergy prick test when your allergic to everything). Its been about 2 hours and it doesnt hurt any more, but the itch is still there.

My questions

1. Is this a normal reaction to this cream?
2. Do you know of any better over-the-counter (some what cheap) methods?
3. Will this reaction continue each time i apply it?

P.S. normally i use cold compress to help with the itching, take cool showers often and apply a aloe based lotion. However this out break was worse than normal (most likely due to the amount of irritants that could have contributed to the flare up).
