Top Herb Garden Designs: Learn From Proven Winners

While many people choose to grow their herbs inside or in a window box, if you have the space available a larger herb garden may be a good option for you. Since herbs are both beautiful and useful, they are a great addition to any garden.

Herb garden designs depend on a variety of factors. Things like available space, desired style, desired herbs and other factors will dictate what you can do with your herb garden designs. Perhaps the most important factor in herb garden designs is aesthetics. The style of your garden should complement the style of your home as well as reflect your personal style.

In the past English style herb garden designs have been quite popular, and are still the preference of those who like neat rows and symmetry. There is something nostalgic and appealing about neat hedge rows that frame lovely flowering herbs such as lavender, or small shrub plants like rosemary. They usually feature some type of center focal point in the middle, whether it is a statue, or garden furniture or a fountain.

Perhaps one of the best herb garden designs for a small space is a design that uses tiered planters. The reason this works well for smaller areas is that the footprint of the area used is small but as the tiers in the raised planter boxes move up, you gain more planting area.

Another of the most popular herb garden designs is the more modern design of the square garden. It is laid out in a similar fashion to the English style garden but is more open. Where the English garden is usually bordered by short neatly manicured hedges, the square garden is not. English herb garden designs usually feature paths that are covered in small pea gravel, but square herb garden designs feature paths that are covered in pavers of some type.

When you are planning your herb garden one of the critical factors is the variety of plants and where you will put them. Some of your herb plants will grow tall if you allow them to, while some will become very shrub like, being full and low to the ground. Some will require more sunlight than others and some will require more water than others. So when you are choosing the variety of herbs that you want to grow it is important to plan accordingly. Just choosing the herbs that you would like most to have in your kitchen and then planting them can result in problems.

Herbs can also be planted in your existing flower garden if you have one, and they often make beautiful additions.  But you will want to be careful as the plant food and pesticides (if you choose to use them) that you would use for flowers are much different than those used on edible plants. The products used for flowers are highly toxic if ingested, so erring on the side of caution is always best.

Works Flowering Herbs Questions

What are the most ‘needed’ herbs in Wicca?

I would like to try to grown some of my own herbs, but I am not sure which ones are the most necessary and which I am able to grow easily as I am a young practising Wiccan who has just begun practising magick. I do realise that it is up to me to a certain extent as to which herbs I would rather use and or which ones work depending on my own experiences but I would appreciate a little guidance.

Thank you very much.

Another thing; if anyone could give me any information on drying herbs and flowers I would be very grateful.

Wicca is a religion unto itself. Working with Herbs is a craft.

Like I’ve said many times. “You can be an adherent of the crafts with the title Witch or not, and also be of the crafts with or without being of Wicca.

If you are going to craft with Herbals stay away from all herbs ending with “banes” and any in the nightshades especially Belladonna. There are several very handy Herbs you can grow yourself. Chamomile is very important as a tea of calm. You can harvest stems with with flowers and hang them from a top window sill with string to dry them. Sage is used for cleansing of a home and be used with balsam in a sweat lodge–you can easily grow Sage. A living Thyme plant plant can be purchased at many green houses.

Your early treks into Magick crafting would best be in crafting a dream pillow. Use each herb individually, or mix…. these are for small, 5 inch pillow.

Anise: halts nightmares
Bay: pleasant dreams
Camomile: restful sleep
Eucalyptus: healing
Hops: sleep, healing
Mugwort: dreams, psychic dreams
Peppermint: if used fresh, it induces sleep. change daily
Thyme: happiness (eases depression)
Yarrow: dreams of loved ones

in virtual villagers 2 how do you build tech points?

can you get them from building and repairs or just from research and multiples of collections? I have had to restart a couple times because of my village dying if I forget to change the game speed if I leave it running overnight. At the moment I have level 2 for farming and engineering. I am working or repair of the love shack and have the dam started. I have my fire built and my island herbs and flowers mastered. I have alge in the ocean at the moment and want to get more tech points faster to buy level 3 farming to clear up the ocean and get back to fishing. I have enough coconuts left for the time being and with finding mushrooms around the food supply should hold out if I can get more tech points faster.
I finished the first chapter so I do know to use the research table. What I wanted to know was how to build up tech points in other ways and faster. Did I not state that clearly enough in my first details?

The best way it to collect the tech points is researching as many villagers as you can. However, if you keep on doing the collections you get additional tech points for collecting collectibles that you already have. This helped me alot. So, if you see a collectible that you already have don’t just leave it, let a child pick it up……….. it will add tech points. The uncommon and rare items at a good many tech points. Whereas the regular items gather you about 100 points. Other than that the only other way I know of getting tech points is through island events.

Hope this helps, if you need anymore help you are more than welcome to ask!
